Vice President of CoFLAMES
Alan, or Janus as many friends know him, believes that a person’s life is defined not by any job, but by how they do it, how they connect with the world and serve others. With a 35-year career in high-tech and project management, Janus brings invaluable organizational skills to the CoFLAMES team. However, his true passion lies in service, fostering an environment of unity and empowering collective action, driven by a deep connection to spirituality and the interconnectedness of all beings.
Janus’s first Burning Man festival in 2008 was a mind-blowing experience that forever changed his view of himself and the world, and ignited a passion for multi-media art and wellness festivals. Though he has always identified with all 10 Principles of Burning Man, he realized that focusing on Radical Self-Expression, Civic Responsibility, and Immediacy would be particularly beneficial. Since then, he has participated in two more Burning Man festivals (2009, 2018) and numerous others, including a dozen regional Burning Man events. He finds particular joy in contributing to the construction, setup, and teardown of event infrastructure, exhibits, and camps.
An energy worker, Reiki practitioner and student of new thought ideologies, Janus draws inspiration from thinkers like Ernest Holmes, Deepak Chopra, and Eckhart Tolle, finding particular resonance in Holmes’ “The Science of Mind.” His philosophy centers on the power of positive energy, gratitude, and the belief that we are all unique expressions of a universal collective consciousness. Viewing life itself as an art form, he strives to “spread love, peace, and joy” in all his endeavors.
While deeply connected to all aspects of CoFLAMES’ mission, Janus feels a particular urgency to focus on sustainability. He’s driven by a desire to help develop practical solutions for satisfying basic human needs, address the global affordable housing crisis and create thriving eco-friendly communities.
His decades-long dream of building an off-grid community became a reality in April 2024, when he moved to a friend’s property where, since 2022, he and their team have been developing the land and creating its infrastructure. Plans for 2025 include building aircrete geodesic dome homes, installing a new bio-toilet system and expanding their solar energy system, followed by a greenhouse food garden and rainwater reclamation system. He is excited to be a part of the growing global movement towards sustainable living.
Janus is honored to be part of the CoFLAMES leadership team, helping to bring its mission of human and planetary evolution into reality. As a “master gap filler,” Janus excels at supporting others and working behind the scenes to ensure projects succeed, preferring the quiet impact of facilitation over the limelight. He is dedicated to empowering his brilliant, multi-talented friends and colleagues to bring their visions to life, creating a positive impact on the world through collaborative action and shared best practices.
